As we start the new year, 47 million Americans remain without health insurance. With the economy on shaky ground, the number of uninsured and underinsured is certain to rise. At the same time, grant money and donor support for free clinics like our own have been put in peril by this recession. The New York City Free Clinic, and the uninsured New Yorkers it serves, need your help more than ever!
The New York City Free Clinic was established in 2002 as a partnership between the NYU School of Medicine and the Institute for Family Health. The New York City Free Clinic is located in the Union Square neighborhood of Manhattan and serves patients from all over the greater New York region. We are proud to share some of our accomplishments from the last year:
Providing Free Healthcare: We continue to offer the full range of healthcare services, including specialty referrals, counseling, patient education, social services, and screening. We are the only free clinic in NYC to offer such a wide array of healthcare. All at no cost to our patients. Since our start in 2002, over 1000 patients have been seen by the Clinic.
Women's Health Clinic: In February 2008, we opened our Women's Health Clinic, with its focus on reproductive health and preventive screening. We had a fantastic debut year and are looking to expand our capacity in the Women's Health Clinic in the coming years.
Access to Healthcare: We are helping many uninsured New Yorkers register for public health insurance. In addition, we have attended national healthcare conferences to learn more about helping New York's uninsured and to share our success stories with others.
